Well for one thing, you get an odometer to gauge when to fill your tank (if for nothing else it's worth it just for that). For another, in colder weather I wear a full face helmet & can't see the tank mounted speedometer without "looking down" - but can see the bike computer by glance (mounted on handlebar). A less needy but nonetheless handy feature is it has a clock, timer, and likely other functions I haven't been interested in exploring yet. For something around $25 it's well worth the cost - at least to me.
